Show Me Nearby iPhones

So if Apple ever releases an SDK here’s an idea:

Why not let iPhones see each other when they are in range of Bluetooth or Wireless? You could have some kind of functionality like “Send my vCard to xxx” or “Send this photo to xxx”.

You could get a list of all iPhones within range (you could have a setting that allows your iPhone to be seen or not) and ‘flick’ or ‘drag’ items to them. Hell, even have a feature where the iPhone would buzz when a certain someone was within range.

You could share anything. vCards, music, photos, bookmarks, locations (in gmaps), etc.

Pretty cool, don’t you think? :)

Mmmmmmmm…. “squirting”

That seems like a good way for perverts on the subway to send photos of their fun stuff to unsuspecting commuters.

…and virus and trojans and porn and other stuff you didn’t want someone to put in your pocket.

Why not have a setting that only people in your address book can send you things? And have the sent items be dumped into an inbox which you can sort through.

Similar to dealing with spam.

Hmm, didn’t the Microsoft’s do something along the lines of that?

This is a cool idea, but my train of thought followed Brock’s at first. Your Address Book idea sounds pretty good, but then while at work iPhone messages will become the new email forwards of cat pictures and silly cartoons, but if there were such an address book only situation, with a block list that sounds even better. I just wish I had an iPhone =p

If it only works with people in your address book, why wouldn’t you just e-mail it to them?

@Brock

Yeah, it’s pretty similar to email, but faster and based on who is near you with another iPhone. Proximity factor.
