iPhone Mania

After some troubles getting setup with my new iPhone, I’ve got it setup and working. Initial impressions are pretty good. On WiFi internet is pretty good, most websites display pretty well. Zooming isn’t as annoying as I thought it would be.

I have my email setup to sync with my iPhone, which is nice. Typing is still a challenge. The problem isn’t hitting the keys, it’s holding the damn thing while typing. Maybe I’m holding it wrong? We have opposable thumbs for a reason, to hold things! So how am I supposed to hold it while typing? Maybe I need lessons…

More updates later once I play with how Safari renders small/large pages and Javascript events.

I have to say it’s browsing experience is pretty poor. Zooming in to get the text to a readable state does not reflow the text. Instead you have to scroll horizontally to read a line of text and then back again to go to the next. Maybe I missed something

I agree, it isn’t too great. You can rotate the phone to get a larger width, which helps a little.

The reason the text doesn’t reflow is because it’s a browser. It obeys the CSS & HTML of the page for layout. I have no doubt that many sites will be launching mobile/mobile-aware versions that will shrink their width appropriately. It’s pretty simple.
